On real pools
We hold no paired readings from real pools yet.
We state no accuracy claim until a measurement has at least 8 paired readings for one method, and none has yet. So this page makes no claim about how accurate poolcntrl is on real pools.
A paired reading is one sample of pool water tested two ways at the same time: once with a drop kit, a pool store or a lab, and once with the method being checked.
What we check
The same answer every time
The amounts come from fixed formulas, not from AI. The same readings, volume and product always give the same amount, and the formulas are written out on the page about where our numbers come from.
Checked against a second calculation
We run the engine on a set of made-up test pools and compare its amounts with an independent calculation of the same thing. That catches arithmetic mistakes. It says nothing about how well a real reading describes real water.
What we have not verified
Your reading
Every amount is only as good as the numbers typed in. We have not yet measured, on real pools, how far a strip or our strip scanner drifts from a drop kit. That is what the count above is for.
Your volume
Every amount scales with the gallons. If the volume is a fifth too high, every amount is a fifth too high.
Strip scanning is in beta
Reading a test strip from a photo is new, and strips are less precise than a drop kit even when the scan is perfect.
Photo diagnosis is in beta
Reading a pool from a photo is new. It is a second opinion on what you can already see, never a substitute for a test.
